When people are looking for a new doctor, they want to find a person who they will like and who will make them feel comfortable.

This is one reason doctors and other health professionals should be active members of their community.  The best way for potential new patients to know they will like you is ... to get to know you.

It's not possible to meet every person who might want to trust you with their health, of course.

Warm recommendations from your colleagues and patients help a great deal.  And good photographs, that capture your intelligence and warmth, can also express who you are.

But probably the best way to introduce yourself to potential patients is to make a video and post it online.

Make an emotional connection with your video

A video will give people an excellent sense of your personality and give you a chance to make an emotional connection with them.

Because emotion is important, don't talk about all the experience on your CV or read a list of the twenty services your practice provides.

Instead, explain what medicine means to you. Discuss why you became a doctor. Talk about why you find caring for people fulfilling. Describe what your patients want from you.

Make a connection with people, and they'll choose you to be their doctor.

It's easy to show YouTube videos on your own medical practice website by inserting a piece of html code into the page. That's what we've done with our video on this page.

You can also load videos onto a Google Places page or a Facebook page. The more people who see your video, the more chances you have to grow your practice.
